Our new Web address is www.d3.com Be sure to visit our 3D NEWS section to read about some history-making news!!! There is a general abuse of the term "3-D" these days. Coined in the 1950's, it commonly referred to stereoscopic imagery. Since the advent of the PC, it has been "borrowed" to mean most anything dealing with images that have perspective and or volumetric qualities - and now even sound! This is unfortunate as the public has become confused about what 3D is. Certainly they have become "desensitized." Historically, a 3D film, TV program, comic book, etc. would turn heads with knowing anticipation. Now, the term "3-D" is more common than the word "internet." DIMENSION 3 (D3) has invested enormous resources in developing existing 3D technologies, as well as inventing new, exciting techniques. The public clearly likes 3D. Give 'em a quality 3D image, and they'll want more. This is historic fact. As early as 1971, D3 founder Dan Symmes knew there needed to be a single source of 3D technology. There were too many would-be "experts" with few or no qualifications. Yet producers seeking the "3D Grail" often settle on the first person to raise their hand. They usually have no idea of the complexity, and subtlety of this marvelous techno-art. The inexperienced, hit-and-miss approach is costly, and often results in 3D presentations that cause negative public opinion. Well produced 3D entertainment never fails to excite the public. In 1988, to help distinguish between computer "2 1/2-D" and real, stereoscopic 3D, we developed the trademark REAL 3D. Most recently, we developed the trademark 3DR. Whenever you see this mark, you can be sure it's the 3D you expect. 3D is fun for young and old alike. When the subject matter is interesting, and it is technically well done, 3D is far more effective at creating long term memory associations than any comparable presentation. Our products and services are grouped into four primary areas:
We hope our web site answers your questions. If not, or you
wish to otherwise ABOUT THE HOME PAGE: It is an actual 3D "anaglyph," and can be viewed with "blue/red" 3D glasses. Make sure the RED lens is over your RIGHT eye. All 3D images in our site (more to come) will be "red right." For the best effect, view in a darkened room.
EDITORIAL A creative decision was made to show as many creative uses for 3D as practical. To that goal, the various 3D images herein will vary considerably from "commercial" to "walking on the edge." Sit back, relax, and explore. The longer you look, the more you'll see! (old 3D phrase) We have heard from a very few individuals (MAC-based, maybe WebTV) that they cannot see our 3D images. There is no practical way to build a Web Site for all browsers without making, in our opinion, unacceptable compromises. Our Site is designed to be compatiable with Netscape 3 or greater and generally compatible with Internet Explorer 3 or greater. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you would like 3D glasses to
view our Site, we currently provide glasses at a nominal charge of
two pairs for $1.00 (cash, U.S. funds only). If you want glasses,
just send $1 (cash, no checks!) along with a self addressed
